Chapter 434 Fireworks Fade Easily

Xu Xi simply shook his head slightly, offering no explanation. He stood quietly in the queue, his gaze fixed on the Ferris wheel ahead, his expression somewhat dazed.

Xu Nian looked at her and smiled awkwardly, but didn't ask any more questions.

Today is her birthday, she's the most important person, and whatever decision she makes, he won't say a word.

While they were talking in hushed tones, several more tourists came over and lined up behind them.

Looking at the still long queue ahead, Xu Nian guessed that it would be a long wait, so she turned to Xu Xi and said, "Are you thirsty? I'll go buy two drinks. You wait here for me."

"Okay, sure." Xu Xi nodded.

Xu Nian released her hand and turned to walk towards the beverage shop in the distance.

After his figure disappeared into the distance, Xu Xi slowly turned to the side, gave up his place, and quietly took a few steps back to join the last place in the line.

When Xu Nian returned with two cups of milk tea, he was surprised to find that their positions in the group seemed to have remained unchanged.

"Why is it so slow?" he muttered, standing on tiptoe to look at the front of the line.

It seems there were just this many people in front of him when he left.

Xu Xi took the milk tea from his hand, inserted the straw, and took a small sip. Her tone was calm, subtly concealing her true feelings: "It takes more than ten minutes for a Ferris wheel to complete one rotation. How can it be that fast?"

Xu Nian thought about it and felt that it made sense, so she stopped doubting it and returned to the group, standing next to Xu Xi.

Xu Xi immediately reached out and took his arm, gently pressing her cheek against his arm.

Xu Nian ruffled her long hair, a thought rising in her mind.

This girl seems to be clinging to him more than usual today.

Time passed slowly, and the line moved forward gradually.

Finally, after queuing for more than an hour, it was their turn.

Xu Xi, arm in arm with Xu Nian, boarded the Ferris wheel cabin under the guidance of the staff.

After the cabin door closed, the car began to slowly rise.

The noise below gradually faded away, and the crowds, lights, and amusement facilities gradually became smaller.

The only sounds in the space were their faint breathing and the clearly audible, pounding of their hearts.

Just then, the fireworks display reached its climax. One after another, fireworks rose from the ground and burst into bloom before their eyes, dazzling and colorful, coloring the entire night sky.

The fireworks reflected in Xu Xi's pupils, and a layer of mist gradually rose in his eyes, making him look somewhat dazed.

Fireworks, however beautiful, are ultimately fleeting.

Their lives are but a brief moment of glory, after which they turn to dust, drift away with the wind, and vanish without a trace.

Even knowing this fate, they will still do their best to shine in their most brilliant form.

Otherwise, wouldn't it be a pointless journey through this world?

She turned her head, held the man's hand tightly, carefully sat on his lap, wrapped her arms around his neck, and gazed intently into his eyes.

The moment their eyes met, time seemed to freeze. Everything around them became insignificant, leaving only their heavy breathing and the sound of their heartbeats pounding in their chests.

Xu Xi's cheeks flushed, and his heart pounded so hard it felt like it was about to leap out of his chest.

Her lips moved slightly, and the words she had rehearsed countless times in her mind welled up to her lips, but when the words reached her throat, it was as if something was blocking them, and she couldn't utter a single word.

Xu Nian noticed her nervousness, reached out and gently rubbed her cheek: "What do you want to say? Take your time, no rush, I'm listening."

Under Xu Nian's gentle comfort, Xu Xi's tense body gradually relaxed.

She took a deep breath, finally mustered the courage, lowered her head, and whispered a few words through clenched teeth.

"Will you...will you marry me? Will you let me be your wife?"

Even if it's just a title... it would be fine.

Her voice was barely audible, almost drowned out by the sound of fireworks outside the sedan chair, like the dust after the fireworks exploded, fleeting and leaving no trace.

Xu Nian frowned, instinctively bringing her ear close to her mouth, and asked with a puzzled look, "What did you say?"

But to utter those words had already exhausted all of Xu Xi's courage.

She blushed deeply, too ashamed to look into Xu Nian's eyes again, nor did she have the courage to repeat herself. Instead, she lifted Xu Nian's face, closed her eyes, and kissed his lips deeply.

A glistening tear slid down from the corner of her eye, landing gently on her clothes and leaving a faint stain.

Some things can never be done again. Some words can never be said again.

Just like fireworks, once they bloom, they will never appear again.

She let out a self-deprecating chuckle in her heart.

Fireworks will eventually fade away, but it is enough to see your most radiant self reflected in the eyes of your loved ones.

Meeting him is already a stroke of good luck; how can one expect to become the flower in his hand and accompany him through the long years?

She quickly wiped her eyes, determined not to let Xu Nian see her disheveled state after she opened her eyes.

She was a proud queen who, even if her country perished, would stand on her throne and face death with composure, refusing to allow her crown to fall.

The sounds of fireworks gradually subsided, and the Ferris wheel slowly descended. Only then did their tightly pressed lips slowly separate.

Xu Nian's fingers gently traced Xu Xi's cheek, her fingertips touching a damp spot. "What did you just say? Can you repeat it? I really didn't hear you."

Xu Xi shook his head and said hoarsely, "I didn't say anything, you misheard me."

Xu Nian looked at her evasive eyes and her reddened eyes, and instantly understood something.

He smiled gently, without asking any further questions. He simply reached out and held the girl's hand tightly, interlocking their fingers. His gaze was earnest and firm as he stared intently into her eyes before slowly speaking.

"I do."

These words were like a pebble dropped into a calm lake, stirring up ripples in Xu Xi's heart.

She froze, her whole body stiffened, and even her heart skipped a beat.

After a while, she slowly came to her senses, her lips moved slightly, and she mumbled softly, "What...what are you saying? I don't understand."

After saying that, she quickly turned her head to the side, pretending that she was still breathless from the kiss, and gasped for air to avoid Xu Nian's gaze and prevent him from seeing the tears that instantly streamed down her face.
