Chapter 462 Data Digitization
"This data doesn't match."
Lin Jianguo pressed his finger on the projection wall, his fingernail pressing against the number, his knuckles turning white. He Yuzhu leaned over to look—the carbon nanotube layup angle marked on the drawing was "±45 degrees," but in the handwritten notes next to it, the pencil writing read "actual layup ±30 degrees."
Who wrote it?
"I don't know. There are two kinds of handwriting, ink and pencil. The ink is the original drawing, and the pencil is added later." Lin Jianguo turned the drawing over. There was no signature on the back, only the date, "March 15, 1979. It's six months later than the original drawing."
He Yuzhu was silent for a few seconds. Qian Zhiyuan, who was squatting next to the scanner with a piece of film he had just taken, stood up when he heard this, walked to the projection wall, and stared at the pencil words for a long time.
"Plus or minus thirty degrees?" His voice changed. "The third section of the keel uses plus or minus forty-five degrees. I measured it myself. Who wrote plus or minus thirty degrees? This is going to cause a big problem."
Xiao Zhou stood up from the ground, still clutching the negative of the drawing in his hand. "Director Qian, could it be that Sun Demao altered it? He's in charge of section three."
"Sun Demao wouldn't arbitrarily change the data." Lin Jianguo opened his notebook and turned to the acceptance record for section three. "Accepted in August 1979, the actual measured pavement angle was ±45 degrees, consistent with the original drawing. The pencil writing was done in March, five months before the acceptance. It's possible that someone changed the design before construction and then changed it back later."
He Yuzhu took the blueprint down from the wall, placed it on the table, and smoothed out the creases with his hand. "Investigate. Find out who wrote this in pencil and what the basis for it was. If it's incorrect data, delete it from the file. If it's correct data but wasn't executed, find out why it wasn't executed."
Lin Jianguo jotted it down in his notebook. "Should we check now? Or finish recording this batch of images first?"
"Start recording. Scan this page of notes and mark it 'Pending Verification'. Once everything is recorded, you can specifically investigate this matter."
Lin Jianguo nodded. Xiao Zhou repositioned the camera, aimed it at the back of the drawing, and photographed the pencil writing. The image was projected onto the wall; the writing was blurry, but it was clear that the writer had applied considerable pressure, the pen tip tearing through the paper.
He Yuzhu pulled out a chair and sat down. "Continue. Next one."
Lin Jianguo glanced at him. "Dean He, you—"
"I'll read it for you. Stop talking nonsense."
Xiao Zhou pasted the next drawing on the wall. He Yuzhu pointed to the upper left corner. "Title: Kunlun Antigravity Coil Skeleton, Drawing Number KL-047. Date of Drawing: November 1979. Drafter: Qian Zhiyuan."
Qian Zhiyuan was taken aback. "My drawing?"
"Your drawing." He Yuzhu didn't look up. "Below, material labeling. Carbon nanotube composite material, 15 millimeters thick, layup angle 0 degrees. 32 layers in total, each layer 0.47 millimeters thick."
Lin Jianguo's fingers tapped on the keyboard. He stopped halfway through.
"Dean He, this data doesn't match the actual product. I remember the coil frame has 24 layers, not 32."
Qian Zhiyuan shrank back and lowered his voice. "The blueprints were revised once. The first version was designed for 32 layers, but it was later found that the thickness exceeded the limit, so it was reduced to 24 layers. This drawing is the old version."
He Yuzhu looked up at him. "Why did the old version get into the archives?"
"It must be... that it was misplaced during archiving."
He Yuzhu took the blueprint down from the wall and turned it over to look at the back. There were no markings, no dates.
"This one is invalid. Remove it from the file."
Qian Zhiyuan took the blueprints, held them in his hand, and said nothing.
Xiao Zhou moved on to the next sheet. He Yuzhu continued reading. Lin Jianguo continued typing. The lights in the corridor were on, no one spoke, only the sound of keyboards and the hum of the projector fan could be heard.
When recording the seventeenth image, Xiao Zhou took a picture and waited for the projected image to stabilize before suddenly speaking.
"Dean He, there's a problem with the dimensions on this map. The length is listed as 6,300, but the scale shows 6,100."
Lin Jianguo leaned closer to the wall and gestured with his fingers. "Two hundred millimeters off. That's way too much; it's not a typo."
He Yuzhu stood up and walked to the wall. The scale on the drawing was marked "1:50," and 6,300 millimeters should be 126 millimeters on the drawing. He measured it with a ruler—the actual line drawn was only 122 millimeters.
"The scale didn't change when the drawing was scaled up." Qian Zhiyuan peeked out from the side and said, "The blueprinting machine reduced the size of the original drawing, but the scale number didn't change."
"What year is this picture from?"
Xiao Zhou looked at the date on the negatives. "February 1978. Old drawings."
He Yuzhu returned to his chair and looked at the projection. "Label it 'Scale error, refer to actual dimensions.' Record it."
Lin Jianguo typed this line in the remarks column.
By the time the twenty-third image was finished, it was already three in the afternoon. Xiao Zhou turned off the projector, stood up, and stretched, his back cracking. Lin Jianguo saved the file, leaned back in his chair, and closed his eyes.
"Dean He, twenty-three images were recorded today. At this rate, it will take six days to complete one hundred and twenty keel blueprints. It will take more than four months to complete three thousand master blueprints."
He Yuzhu stood up, folded the drawings neatly, and put them into a folder. "Four months is four months. Every record is one less."
Qian Zhiyuan stuffed the old blueprints in his hand into the shredder. The machine clicked and scrambled for a few seconds, and the paper scraps fell into the bin.
He Yuzhu walked out of the archives. He paused in the corridor. Behind him came Lin Jianguo's voice—"Next one."
He didn't turn around and kept walking.
Back in the office, a notification popped up on the system interface.
Side Quest: Digitization of the Shiroyama Archives Completed
[Mission Reward: 50,000,000 points]
[Current total points: 520,000,000 + 50,000,000 = 570,000,000]
The second tip followed immediately—
The Yanhuang Knowledge Base has been integrated, allowing you to access any technical information at any time.
He Yuzhu stared at the line of text but didn't click on it. The cursor blinked in the search box.
He reached out and turned off the monitor. The screen went black, but the afterimage of the text remained on the glass panel, slowly fading away.
