Reborn: Billionaire in College
Chapter 655 Playing devil’s advocate
In June, Orange Technology suddenly announced that it would contribute the Orange OS system to Huawei for free, and would support Huawei in making adaptive optimizations based on the original operating system.
One stone caused a thousand waves!
Both experts and laymen were dumbfounded.
“Awesome! Isn’t this just like holding a lantern in the toilet – looking for shit? Others don’t even have time to hide, but Chen Pingjiang actually goes forward.”
“I don’t know whether to say he is arrogant or confident. Why is he so eager to be sanctioned?”
“I don’t think so. This is not without benefits for Orange Technology. At least the number of system installations has increased. In the future, they can learn from Apple and collect Orange Tax.”
“The biggest loser is undoubtedly Huawei.”
Of course, more people gave thumbs up to Orange Technology.
Everyone agreed that this was not just an ordinary business behavior, but also Orange Technology’s response to Huawei extending a helping hand and saying “NO” to the US sanctions.
This undoubtedly gave a shot in the arm to the Chinese people who were in a gloomy mood.
During the period when Huawei was sanctioned, domestic practitioners had different reactions.
Some companies appear to be concerned but are actually applauding behind the scenes.
Some companies also feel the same way, fearing that they will be the next to be sanctioned.
But more companies are pessimistic and dare not speak out.
All living beings are in full view.
No one dares to deny the national strength of the United States. Everyone hates long-arm jurisdiction, but they are helpless and can do nothing about it.
Especially after seeing ZTE kneel down, accept the penalty and pay a fine of 10 billion US dollars, everyone became more worried in their hearts even though they didn’t say it.
You can say your opponent is bad, but you really can’t say your opponent is bad.
Otherwise, why would SMIC issue a statement saying it would not manufacture for Huawei?
Otherwise, why did Hytera just kneel down after being fined $100 million a day?
After all, it’s because we lack core technology and have been controlled by our competitors.
Soon after, even the official media praised Orange Technology’s actions.
As long as Huawei does not collapse, it will build confidence in more companies and prevent the United States from using this round of sanctions as a “model”.
In response to interview invitations from various media, Chen Pingjiang never showed up, but he did show up at a high-level meeting held by a certain department.
And he said the following.
“When faced with major issues of right and wrong, how should entrepreneurs make choices and where should they lead their companies? This is what I have been thinking about.”
“Great entrepreneurs are never cold-blooded speculative profit-seekers!”
“If we fail to see the true nature of politicians on the other side of the sea and fail to fight back, it will only make it easier for them to take advantage of us.”
“…”
Whether intentional or unintentional, these remarks were spread.
It immediately caused an uproar in society.
Regardless of whether these words are meant to attract attention or traffic, more people see Chen Pingjiang’s attitude and ability to take action.
……
……
In the office, everyone seemed relatively relaxed.
There were all sorts of voices during the planning stage, but now that it’s been done, there are no longer so many concerns.
What everyone was discussing was the upcoming sanctions against Orange Technology.
“Some people on the other side have been hyping this up, but the reaction has not been huge. However, some media on the other side have described our actions as ‘provocative’.”
Chen Pingjiang laughed and said, “It’s still the same thinking. Those who follow me will prosper, and those who go against me will perish.” Lin Bin nodded and said, “I’m used to being the boss. In the past, whoever I bullied would die. Now I’m sure I’m angry when I see someone dare to go against me. But we are different from Huawei in size and business. Even if they want to impose sanctions, they have to think carefully.”
Orange Technology does not have much business overseas, and it mainly targets private consumers.
The maximum sanctions are nothing more than not being allowed to use Google’s GMS services and not being able to obtain the most advanced chips.
Orange Technology has already prepared countermeasures, and will not sit idly by even if sanctions really come.
Zhou Guangping said: “I think it will take some time to prepare. I am afraid that the other party will not pay attention to the initial move and directly impose sanctions on the entire Shanhe Holdings.”
Bu Housheng cleared his throat and said, “I agree with what Lao Zhou said. In fact, this is also a key point for the other party to consider. The several group companies under Shanhe Holdings are all integrated. Our product ecosystem is far better than Huawei’s. This is our advantage.”
“The other party also has to consider whether to kill us or impose mild sanctions to show their attitude. If they kill us, it will be like making a big deal and expanding it to other companies and other industries. Even they have to consider the follow-up response.”
“Besides, they are also afraid that if they suppress one problem, it will cause another.”
To put it bluntly, Orange Technology’s confidence is different from ZTE’s.
Once the latter is banned from purchasing American technology and its supply chain is disrupted, the company will immediately come to a standstill without any preparation.
But Orange Technology is different. It is more prepared than Huawei.
For example, Huawei has developed its own chips, has its own chip foundry, and has a complete mobile phone operating system. The 5G technology supported by Huawei has long been sought as an alternative to the domestic supply chain.
More confident!
What is lost is a small part of the overseas market, which only accounts for 15% of Orange Technology’s total sales.
Overall, the risks are controllable.
In addition to this outing, domestic sales will increase, further offsetting the disadvantages.
Chen Pingjiang nodded and said, “We should despise our opponents strategically, but we should still pay attention to them tactically. No matter what, the sanctions from the other side will definitely have an impact on our business. The only thing we have to do is for all companies to move forward together and do better, so that the sanctions from the other side will be in vain.”
If you have your own technology and your own supply chain, and even if they are far superior to others, would you still be afraid of sanctions?
Obviously not.
Lin Bin said: “Overall, after repeated consideration, we think that the biggest gap should still be in chips. Apart from that, we have mostly achieved domestic substitution for other components. For those that cannot be replaced for the time being, we have also prepared a considerable amount of stock.”
He also had to sigh at Chen Pingjiang’s wisdom, as if he had been preparing for this day a long time ago.
Many of the domestic supply chain companies that have emerged in recent years actually have the shadow of Tianyuan Capital behind them.
One can imagine how far-reaching the big boss’s plan is.
No wonder they have the confidence to challenge the Americans.
He continued, “We are not worried about 14nm chips, as we have sufficient stock. The main products are 7nm and future 5nm 5G chips. Under Moore’s Law, technology upgrades very quickly. I am worried that if we don’t make a breakthrough in three to five years, other competitors will launch 5G phones and we will still be the only ones using 4G.”
Lin Bin’s worries are not without reason.
It was almost exactly as he said. Huawei was silent for two years after being sanctioned and was unable to launch its own 5G mobile phone.
There are three reasons.
1. Chip design is limited. To put it bluntly, there is no EDA to design chips, which does not pose a threat to Chen Pingjiang. A few years ago, he asked his subordinate companies to start designing, and recently cooperated with Huawei to further improve the EDA development process.
2. OEM manufacturing blockade. Once sanctioned, Orange will not be able to get the most advanced chips like Huawei, which will lead to the difficulty in producing 5G mobile phones.
At this point, we can only hope for a technological breakthrough from Huaxin International.
But everyone knows this is difficult.
Not only does the semiconductor supply chain need to be sorted out, the key EUV lithography machine is the real problem.
After all of this is done, we must continue to make breakthroughs in chip foundry technology so that we can successfully mass-produce 14-nanometer, 7-nanometer, and 5-nanometer high-end chips.
3. The supply of radio frequency chips is blocked. (End of this chapter)
