Chapter 47: Checking for omissions and filling them up
“A washbasin, a squat toilet, a bathtub, a stove…tsk…and a fireplace.”
Ronan stood in the middle of the room, looking around at everything in his new home. Seeing the fireplace covered with dust and cobwebs, he curiously poked his head in to take a closer look.
“Winter is coming soon, and it will come in handy then.”
Ronan sat down at the only table in the room, picked up the old copper kettle on the table, shook it, and then put it down again.
Overall, Ronan is quite satisfied with his “new home”.
The room is not big, but it is much more spacious than the tree house I stayed in before. Although the furniture is old, at least it has all the necessary things.
A very important point is that there is a toilet in the house, and from now on he no longer has to empty the urine pot himself.
It is not easy to find a house with decent living conditions on Water Drop Street, which is known as the “slum” of the town.
This house is one of the best in the surrounding area, and of course the rent is nearly half higher than that of an ordinary house.
The glass oil lamp emitted a dim yellow light. Ronan sat at the table, supporting his chin with one hand and tapping the table unconsciously with the other hand. He looked like a person who was so bored that he had no idea what to do.
Suddenly, the sound of fingers tapping on the table stopped. Ronan came back to his senses and said quietly, “Hoddam Wizard Academy.”
I don’t know if it was because my original self had dropped out of Hoddam unwillingly, or because I had been a student for more than ten years in my previous life and had lived a well-behaved life.
Ronan discovered that he had an inexplicable obsession with the issue of “enrollment in school”.
So much so that when I learned that the college had stopped recruiting students, I almost lost my mind.
Now thinking back, his biggest purpose in wanting to enter the academy for further studies was nothing more than to obtain the key inheritance to become a formal wizard.
Putting this aside, it doesn’t mean you have to enter the college immediately.
“The most important task during the apprenticeship stage is to accumulate spiritual power. I still have a long way to go before I am qualified to become a formal wizard.
It doesn’t really matter whether you can get in now or not.
There is this unwillingness and irritability.”
Ronan stood up, staring at the glass oil lamp in front of him, and said to himself: “It is better to think more about how to survive the crisis of the invasion of black wizards. When I become an eighth- or ninth-level wizard apprentice, maybe things will take a new turn.”
Thinking of this, Ronan couldn’t help but recall his previous battles.
These rescue and escape battles seemed to be safe and smooth, but in fact they reflected big problems.
The most important one among them is.
“Serious lack of control measures!”
Ronan couldn’t help but frown.
He had almost no control skills, and he killed the Black Robe several times by relying on the super-powerful lethality of [Energy Missile] and the unexpected timing of his attack.
Facing an opponent who only attacks from a standing position, Ronan’s fighting style might still be effective.
However, if he faced an alert and flexible enemy, such as the two-headed demon lizard, his weakness of lacking effective control methods would be immediately exposed. His [Energy Missile] missed several times in a row, and finally the two-headed demon lizard escaped.
“Control skills are an essential and important part of any complete combat system.”
“Only by effectively restricting the opponent’s actions can we maximize the hit rate of the [Energy Missile].”
“And spells with similar effects”
Ronan thought about it and felt that perhaps only ice and lightning spells were suitable for him.
The former usually comes with spell effects such as freezing and slowing, while the latter comes with special effects such as paralysis and stiffness. These two types of spells are also relatively common in the Hoddam Wizard Land and are relatively easy to obtain.
“Let’s go to the market sometime and see if we can buy another suitable protective tool.”
In the battle with the senior apprentice in black robe, Ronan felt for the first time the importance of protective tools.
If he hadn’t carried a magic ring with double [Protection] runes and activated it at the critical moment, he would have fallen down in hatred when facing the black-robed wizard’s corpse explosion spell and the siege of sword-shield skeleton servants in the first round. How could he have been promoted to master level with [Energy Missile] and opened up a series of extraordinary magic domains?
“You can never have too much of this kind of life-saving stuff, especially in this situation.”
Ronan touched his chin and even considered whether he should learn a defensive level 0 spell.
Later I thought about it and decided to forget it. There are really not many people who learn defensive spells during the apprentice stage, because zero-level defensive spells are generally fragile and must be recast if they cannot withstand two hits from spells of the same level. Instead of wasting limited mental energy and passively taking a beating, it is better to think about how to kill the opponent faster and end the battle directly.
“Attack, control, defense. Then comes the aspects of recovery and gain.”
In the battle between wizards, on-the-spot response is quite important.
Especially during the wizard apprentice stage, when the mental strength is not enough.
“Spirit recovery potion, healing potion, detoxification potion, physical strength potion”
Ronan thought of a lot of potions that might come in handy, all of which were summarized based on several battles.
As for on-the-spot enhancement methods, Ronan can currently only consider the body-building methods he usually practices.
Having strong physical fitness does have its advantages, as it can greatly increase the tolerance for mistakes in combat. Ronan thinks this is the case at least during the apprentice stage.
Many wizards look down on body building and are unwilling to waste time on it, thinking that they would rather spend that time on meditation and witchcraft research.
Or maybe they think that body building is not in line with the noble and respected status of a wizard, and that it is something that only ordinary knights who are worthy of being followers of wizards would do.
However, he had absolutely no reservations or concerns in this regard.
“Money, money!”
In the end, Ronan found that no matter which aspect of the plan, he couldn’t avoid a very critical thing – the magic stone!
You need magic stones to take drugs, buy spells, and purchase magic tools. Even to strengthen your body, you need magic stones to buy monster meat to assist in your practice!
Everything would be easy if we had the magic stone, but without it, all the plans would be nothing but empty talk.
“Take your time. You will always get what you deserve.”
Ronan comforted himself, reached out to light the oil lamp in front of him, and then took out three storage waist bags.
If you want to become rich, the fastest way is to open these three “safes” on hand.
Dawn breaks, and a sleepless night follows.
Ronan yawned and walked out of the house. He patted his robe and activated the [Clean] rune engraved on the robe. The peculiar smell that had been in the house all night disappeared immediately, and his whole body became refreshed again.
However, after several battles, this originally brand new robe has become a little worn out, with holes in several places, but Ronan is reluctant to replace it with a new one.
“Wizards hate physical training and close combat. Could it be because it takes too much time to make the robes?”
Ronan was thinking about all sorts of things in his mind, muttering a spell, and casually threw an [Ice Ball] onto the ground in front of him.
