Chapter 333: Wrath of the Lich King
Chapter 333: Wrath of the Lich King (Part )
When Arthas returned to Lordaeron, Kel’Thuzad had already recaptured Naxxramas. However, due to a lack of troops, Kel’Thuzad had to drive Naxxramas back to Northrend to replenish his troops.
The Death Knights of Acherus already had a certain combat capability, so Arthas ordered Darion to disrupt the Hand of Tyr behind the Silver Dawn. But when he got there, he found that the Hand of Tyr was empty.
The Vrykul have been dormant for thousands of years and have lost the cooperation with the Proto-Dragon. They are actively training and preparing to restore the glory of the Dragon Riders as soon as possible.
With three great helpers, Arthas was very proud of himself. He led the undead army from Stratholme and headed straight for Light’s Hope Chapel. Even when Darion came to report something unusual, he didn’t take it seriously.
After arriving at Light’s Hope Chapel, Arthas immediately ordered a strong attack. As a result, Tirion, the paladins and priests used the Holy Light together to lure out thousands of heroes. The endless Holy Light destroyed the undead army and also injured Arthas.
Tirion led his elite troops to Arthas, but Arthas was still unmatched and killed more than a dozen powerful paladins one by one with his sword. Tirion attacked personally, but was easily repelled by Arthas.
Arthas taunted Tirion, saying that if Tirion could not launch another heroic attack, he would massacre all the living people in Light’s Hope Chapel and then resurrect all the corpses as undead.
Tirion continued to attack angrily, but Arthas easily resolved them all. At the critical moment, Darion, who was watching the battle, suddenly threw the Ashbringer in his hand to Tirion. Tirion grabbed the Ashbringer and poured all the Holy Light into it.
The Heroic Spirit appeared again and helped Tirion purify the Ashbringer. Tirion jumped up and launched the strongest attack on Arthas. Arthas blocked the attack, but was seriously injured by the powerful Holy Light.
Although he still had the strength to kill Tirion, he was horrified by Darion’s rebellion and was forced to retreat.
When the others arrived, Darion told everyone that he was able to break free from Arthas’ control because of the impact of the heroic spirits. There were many death knights with him, they were from different races, but they all died in the battle against the Scourge.
Darion believed that Arthas’s injury was a good opportunity to destroy the Scourge, and the first step was to capture Acherus.
Tirion took prompt action and led the others to attack Acherus, defeating the death knights still under Arthas’ control and capturing Acherus. Darion renamed Acherus the Black Blade Fortress and the awakened death knights the Knights of the Black Blade.
With the information provided by Darion, Tirion once again invited the Alliance and the Horde to take revenge on the Scourge together.
The Alliance and the Horde were still in their honeymoon period after the battle of Ahn’Qiraj. They both had hatred towards the Scourge, so they agreed without hesitation.
Tirion arrived in Northrend first with the Silver Dawn, and built the port fortress New Hearthglen in a bay in Dragonblight as a gathering place for the Alliance and the Horde.
What he didn’t expect was that the Alliance and the Horde had their own ideas about how to attack the Scourge. There were even different opinions within the Alliance and the Horde.
On the Alliance side, Varian sent Bolvar to lead the army and accepted Tirion’s command. They drew most of the troops within the kingdom, and even formed a legion in the unstable West Wilderness to participate in this Northern Expedition.
Dwarves and gnomes sent out armies to fight alongside humans.
The night elves went directly into Northrend to find their ally, the bear monsters. As a result, they found that the bear monsters were fighting the frost trolls, so the night elves were tied up by the bear monsters and missed most of the battle.
The Horde was even more rebellious. Led by the new Warsong Chieftain Garrosh Hellscream, the orcs landed in the Borean Tundra hundreds of miles away and took over the arable land there. Sylvanas built the Tomb of the Stars on the west side of the Dragonblight, preparing to launch an attack on the Frozen Throne immediately.
If Warchief Thrall had not brought his elite troops, as well as the trolls and blood elves, to New Hearthglen, the Horde would have broken its promise.
At Darion’s suggestion, Tirion decided to seize Utgard Keep first and cut off Arthas’s foreign aid. As a result, the coalition launched a blitzkrieg against the Vrykul, and when the Vrykul were caught off guard, they seized the gate of Utgard Keep and rushed straight to the lair of the proto-dragon.
After losing their mounts, the Vikus’ fighting power was greatly reduced, and they were eventually wiped out by the coalition forces.
The coalition continued to attack, but was blocked by Naxxramas. Darion activated the Ebon Fortress and launched a surprise attack on Naxxramas, killing Kel’Thuzad once again and capturing Naxxramas once again.
Then the coalition forces advanced unstoppably all the way to the Gate of Heaven’s Punishment.
After Arthas returned to the Frozen Throne, he recovered from many of his injuries. With infinite power, he did not take the coalition forces seriously. He commanded his army to walk out of the Gate of Retribution and attack the coalition forces.
The two sides fought fiercely, and Arthas alone killed hundreds of brave warriors.
Just as Tirion issued an order to launch the final decisive battle, a group of Forsaken appeared on a nearby cliff. They threw a large number of poison gas bombs onto the battlefield, killing the soldiers and undead of the coalition forces without distinguishing between friend and foe.
Arthas was also corroded by the poison gas and had to retreat to the Gate of Retribution to treat his injuries.
The allied soldiers were angry at the behavior of the Forgotten, but they could only watch them retreat. They wanted to rescue their companions in the poisonous gas, but anyone who dared to step into the gas fell to the ground instantly.
Just when everyone was at a loss, a group of red dragons appeared in the sky, and they sprayed dragon breath to purify the poisonous gas.
The second part, “War of the Arcane Core”, mainly tells the story of Malygos, the king of blue dragons, who wants to destroy all spellcasters.
The betrayal of the Forsaken forced the coalition to stop its offensive. Thrall sought the trust of Sylvanas and asked her why she betrayed the Covenant.
Sylvanas was entangled by a crypt spider in the Tomb of Stars, so she did not appear in the battle of the Wrathgate. After understanding the situation, Sylvanas immediately went to the Wrathgate camp to meet Thrall and told him that throwing the gas bomb was not her order.
Only then did everyone realize that there was a traitor among the Forsaken, so Tirion decided to help the Forsaken get rid of the traitor.
Sylvanas called Blightcaller and asked him to return to Undercity to investigate first, and then led the army back to Undercity with Thrall.
Because someone needed to guard the Gate of Wrath, the Silver Dawn and human soldiers did not move. Instead, they wrote to Varian, asking him to lead his troops to Undercity to help Sylvanas.
