Chapter 247: Battle of Unification Part 1

Chapter 247: Battle of Unification Part

“President Yamaguchi, something bad has happened. Chairman Ne Win was killed by an enemy bomb. Now we need you to quickly issue a mobilization order and order the entire country to enter a state of emergency to prepare for the upcoming war.” A surviving major general staff officer from the Ministry of National Defense found President Yamaguchi and said.

“Chairman Ne Win was killed in a bombing? When did it happen? In the morning he said he was going to the sheltered headquarters to command the battle. How did it get bombed?”

When President Sanyou heard the news that Chairman Ne Win had been killed in the explosion, a look of joy flashed across his face, but in front of Ne Win’s trusted general, he quickly put on a look of surprise and pain and asked.

“President, Chairman Ne Win was killed in the bombing when he was almost reaching his destination,” said the major general staff officer sadly.

“My condolences. However, you asked me to order the whole country to enter a state of emergency. However, I do not have this power. Chairman Ne Win did not authorize me before he left. So even if I give the order, the military and municipal government leaders in various places will not listen?” Shan said helplessly.

“Chairman Ne Win gave us orders before he left. I have the secret code he gave us. You can use this code to contact the leaders of the military regions and local governments, and they will follow your orders.” The major general staff officer took out a piece of paper with a code written on it from his underwear pocket and gave it to President Yamanote.

“Really? That’s great. Well, come with me to issue the order. I’ll contact the local governments, and you’ll be in charge of contacting the military commands. This way it’ll be faster.”

President Yamato took the paper and looked at it. He originally wanted to issue the order by himself, so that he could take the opportunity to interfere in the affairs of various military regions and local governments.

But the thought that if this major general staff officer who could take on such an important task entrusted by Chairman Ne Win was left aside, he might do something bad.

At this time, facing this mysterious and powerful enemy, we still have to rely on the concerted efforts of the military.

He thought about it for a while and decided to share the power and let this trusted adviser of Ne Win exercise some power.

So he asked the major general staff officer to give orders to each military region.

“Okay, hurry up then.”

So the two of them hurried to the confidential communications room of the Myanmar Presidential Palace to give the order.

At this time, Mandalay had fallen into chaos. Under the attack of the heavy combined brigade of the All-China Revolutionary Army, the soldiers of the Northern Military Region lost their morale and fled to the south.

It turned out that in the first wave of D-300 missile attacks, almost all officers above the regimental level in the Northeast Military Region were wiped out.

At that time, the military region chief, General Than Shwe, was convening a meeting of division-level cadres, asking them to strengthen the training of their troops and prepare to suppress the Quan Jiefang Front, a local force that was growing in size in the northwest.

The division-level cadres arrived at the meeting place. Before General Than Shwe had said a few words when the building where the meeting room was located was hit by four D-4 missiles.

The entire building collapsed under the explosion of this powerful missile, and the explosion points turned into huge deep pits.

The guards responsible for protecting the area around the building were also blown to and fro by the shock wave generated by the explosion. More than a dozen guards who were nearby had their internal organs ruptured and vomited blood, with bright red blood flowing from their ears.

The guards who witnessed all this woke up from their dream after dozens of seconds, each of them feeling as if they had lost their parents.

Some of the guards who were extremely loyal to General Than Shwe ignored the high temperatures at the scene and ran from a distance to the ruins of the collapsed building, moving rubble and wood with their bare hands in an attempt to rescue people from the rubble.

However, this was obviously futile, as most people’s hands were burned and blistered.

Some of the clever ones took off their military uniforms, tore them apart, and used them to cover their hands before digging.

But after a few minutes they lost hope, and a few timid ones were even frightened by the broken human tissues found under the rubble.

Seeing this scene, the highest-ranking colonel on the scene asked a few brave ones to stay and continue digging, and told them to find the body of General Than Shwe.

He led the others to the division and regiment headquarters, told them the news that the general and their superiors had been killed in the explosion, and asked them to assemble quickly to meet the impending enemy.

As to why he didn’t make a phone call or send a telegram, that was of course because these were rendered useless when the building was bombed.

Just as the colonel notified the nearest division, the Quanjiezhen’s armed helicopters also arrived.

As soon as he found the staff officer in charge of staying behind at the division headquarters, he heard the noise of helicopter propellers coming from the distance.

He was suddenly startled, and then ran to the entrance of the division headquarters with the division staff officer to check.

At this time, at a low altitude of 3 kilometers away, more than 10 armed helicopters similar to the American Apache were flying towards the division headquarters.

The rocket launchers on both sides of the helicopter and the machine guns on the front made the two soldiers’ scalps tingle as they had never seen such a sight before.

Just a few seconds after they were stunned, the helicopter moved forward for a distance and seemed to have discovered the location of their division headquarters.

There were flames coming out from under the two armed helicopters in front, and rockets were flying rapidly towards the division headquarters building behind them.

At this time, the remaining staff officer was smart. He pulled the colonel captain of General Than Shwe who came to report the news and hid under the flower bed in front of the division headquarters building.

The colonel was dragged and staggered forward. Just as he squatted down on the flower bed, the blast behind him made him feel a burning sensation on his back.

It turned out that a rocket hit the division headquarters building behind him, and the heat wave generated by the explosion almost ignited his thin shirt.

Fortunately, the humidity was high at the time and he had been sweating a lot before, so when the heat wave hit, although the evaporation of sweat was uncomfortable, at least his shirt did not burn.

It was only after the explosion behind them lasted for several seconds that they dared to look up.

I saw smoke from explosions in several places in the distance. Only a few of our soldiers were firing rifles at the sky, trying to shoot down the hovering armed helicopters. Most of the soldiers were running away.

Some of the armed helicopters in the sky were circling one place, and the machine guns in front were spraying deadly shells.

Some were on alert at higher altitudes, occasionally firing a rocket to blow up their own fortifications on the ground.

“Hurry up and go to the tank regiment in the south.” The colonel, ignoring the burns on his back, pulled the staff officer who saved his life and said.

“Go? There is a jeep over there, but once we start, we will definitely be blown up by the enemy’s rockets. We can only walk on foot. The helicopter in the sky will arrive before we get there.” The staff officer squatted under a stone behind the flower bed and spoke in a low voice.

“Then what do you say we should do? You can’t just wait here to die, right?”

“Wait a little longer, the enemy helicopters can’t keep firing. Look, aren’t they hovering in the air without firing any ammunition? Wait until they have used up most of their ammunition and destroyed most of the fortifications and the resisting people, then we can slowly slip away.” The staff officer rolled his eyes and said in a low voice.

“Hmm? Okay, let’s wait a little longer.”

So the two of them stood up from time to time under the flower bed, half squatting to check on the division headquarters where smoke was rising.

The sounds of resistance on the ground became fewer and fewer, the sounds of AK-47 rifles became only sporadic, while the wailing on the ground continued one after another.

When a small group of soldiers escaped from not far away and the armed helicopters in the sky did not fire to stop them, the staff officer knew that his opportunity had come.

So he pulled up the colonel beside him, half-crouched and followed the team of soldiers to the outskirts of the camp. At this time, the armed helicopters in the sky did not waste machine gun shells on the fleeing soldiers below, and let them escape.

Because the people below were unarmed, they could not run far if they only ran on foot, and it would not take long for them to be caught up by the infantry coming from behind.

Their main task was to destroy the enemy’s more solid fortifications and battalion-level command posts, making it impossible for the government forces to organize an organized resistance.

Now the division headquarters building and the more regularly constructed buildings in the barracks have been blown up, and some fortresses and checkpoints have also been blown up. There is no need to waste their few remaining rockets and machine gun shells. After all, landing to replenish ammunition is time-consuming.

The armed helicopter formation responsible for the battle at the division headquarters saw that the mission was completed, so according to the predetermined plan, it left four armed helicopters with half of their ammunition left to patrol and guard in the air, waiting for the armored infantry behind to arrive.

The other helicopters that did not have enough ammunition for the next mission returned to the rear to replenish ammunition and fuel, while those that still had ammunition continued to head south to assist other formations.

Five minutes later, eight transport helicopters carrying eight infantry squads of FL-5 soldiers arrived at the division headquarters in the suburbs of Mandalay and officially took over the division headquarters.

Some of them brought weapons, ammunition and various equipment from helicopters to form a front-line command point in the Mandalay battlefield.

Some simply distinguished between the lightly wounded and seriously wounded government soldiers, detained the lightly wounded separately, gave them some first aid kits and asked them to bandage themselves first, and asked the surrendered Burmese government soldiers to help carry the seriously wounded to the barracks that had not collapsed, gave them simple bleeding control, and waited for the arrival of follow-up medical teams.

Then about 10 minutes later, light tanks and armored personnel carriers drove to the division headquarters.

Some of them only made a short stop to replenish some water before continuing on their way to the city of Mandalay in the south.

Some went to various checkpoints to deploy defenses. From now on, this base of the Myanmar government army will become a camp of the National Liberation Front.

At this time, the city of Mandalay was in chaos.

First, a wave of defeated soldiers from the Northeast Military Region rumbled through the city in Type 63 armored vehicles. When passing by food stores or jewelry stores, they would stop to rob food and gold and silver jewelry. Their methods were brutal. A gold shop owner and his wife and their family tried their best to stop them from looting, but were shot to death by the red-eyed government soldiers.

Before the citizens could react to the brutal behavior of these defeated soldiers, another large wave of defeated soldiers poured into the city.

Some of these people were carrying guns, and they would rob food stores and shops selling valuable goods. Some of them would even drag good-looking women away to vent their anger.

There were continuous gunshots in the city, but the police did not take to the streets. They were also confused by the sudden chaos, and did not dare to come out to stop the government troops who were looting in military uniforms.

After looting and venting their anger, some of the defeated soldiers left the city and continued to flee south. With their arms full of stuff, they rode the stolen motorcycles or bicycles to escape to the south.

Some of them hid themselves, took off their military uniforms and changed into stolen clothes, intending to blend in with the ordinary crowd in an attempt to avoid the enemies coming from the north.

Of course, there were also some soldiers whose homes were in Mandalay, and almost all of them chose to flee back home and hide.

Just over ten minutes after the fleeing soldiers passed by, the vanguard of the Quanjie formation on the ground also arrived in the city of Mandalay.

They first occupied municipal facilities such as city hall buildings, banks, post offices, hospitals, train stations, power plants, and water plants to prevent sabotage and theft by criminals.

These facilities and the things inside them will be the assets of the government agency that will be established by the Quanjie Front in the future, so they must be protected.

At the same time, the propaganda team responsible for the army also rode on military trucks to tour the streets of Mandalay city to broadcast notices to reassure the people, indicating that they were the armed forces of the National Liberation Front.

The notice announced that Mandalay was under martial law, and citizens could only go out during certain hours during the day to buy food, medicine and other daily necessities, and could only stay at home or in their residences at other times.

The owners of various people’s livelihood stores can go to the temporary government street office set up on each street to apply for a pass, and they will be able to operate and pass various areas with a license for a period of time in the future.

Of course, if there are emergencies and you need the help of the whole solution formation, you can go to the street office for help. As for those emergencies, a notice will be issued later, which will list some matters.

After the Complete Liberation Front’s northern line troops completed the destruction of the Northeast Military Region’s armed forces and occupied the city of Mandalay, only one regiment of light infantry was left, while the other troops continued to move southward with armed helicopters clearing the way in the air.

Aerial transport airships also continuously deliver supplies and grassroots cadres to Mandalay.

These fully-automated grassroots cadres with brain-computer chips implanted can speak several Burmese dialects. They have downloaded the memory package for handling grassroots affairs, and can handle grassroots affairs very skillfully, quickly build grassroots organizations, and do a good job in urban management.

As for the management of rural areas, it will have to wait until the next stage, when the National Liberation Front has wiped out most of the government forces.

At the same time, the southern city of Yangon was also captured by the 2nd Heavy Combined Armored Brigade.

Although General Sein Win of the Yangon Military Region was not hit by the D-300 missile, his headquarters was hit by multiple rockets while he was commanding his troops to resist.

When his division headquarters was blown up by an armed helicopter, the government forces that had been resisting very resolutely began to flee.

At this time, the heavy rain in Yangon indirectly helped these defeated soldiers.

It was difficult for the armed helicopter formations in the air to spot the scattered fleeing enemies, so most of the soldiers of the Yangon Military Region fled from the front line.

Of course, the city of Yangon also suffered from looting and rioting by the fleeing soldiers, and some Yangon citizens who tried to protect their property were beaten to death or injured.

Around 1 p.m., when the heavy rain stopped, the ALF’s southern front troops completed the clearing of troops outside Yangon and the occupation of strategic points, and then began to enter the city of Yangon to occupy various important facilities.

When occupying the embassy area, the soldiers of the National Liberation Front encountered resistance from the British embassy guards. They then broke down the door of the embassy with a grenade. Only then did the British embassy behave itself and cooperate obediently with the inspection of the National Liberation Front army.

As the two cities in the north and south fell into the hands of the All-China Liberation Front, all major countries in the world knew that armed unrest had also occurred in Myanmar.

The ANC did not make any statement on this. In the embassy area in Yangon, the ANC troops in charge of military control responded to the embassy personnel of various countries in a unified manner in accordance with the requirements when they set out, and asked them to do as the ANC asked. They did not accept any bargaining and did not answer any other questions.

On the evening of September 9, after Mandalay in the north and Yangon in the south fell into the control of the ALF, the attack on the two important military towns of Meiktila and Taungoo also began.

Meiktila is more than 80 kilometers north of Naypyidaw, and Taungoo is more than 100 kilometers south of Naypyidaw.

These two important military towns are the two military regions with the strongest military power except for the northern and southern military regions.

These two places originally had two infantry divisions and one armored regiment stationed there, each with more than 60 Chinese-made Type 63 armored personnel carriers and some British-made “Comet” tanks (left over from World War II).

炮兵部队也不少,有苏联D-30榴弹炮20门、中国54式122毫米榴弹炮40多门。

At this time, the two military regions had already figured out where the enemy came from and began to prepare for defense.

The heads of the two military regions also knew about the tactics used by the enemy to decapitate the Ministry of National Defense and several other military regions, and had already made some targeted defenses.

Therefore, the following battle would not be as easy as during the day, because the enemy began to have a unified command and was no longer a loose group.
