After listening to the advice, I rebelled and became an emperor of all ages
Chapter 376: Burning the Camps
Inside the Northern Barbarian Camp.
Because Yuan Jingxin’s men were few and it was dark at night, most of the Northern Barbarian soldiers were asleep.
They used the shadows of the tents to nimbly move around the camp, moving quickly and stealthily. Every turn and every pause was made with extreme caution, for fear of making any noise.
On the way, a northern barbarian soldier walked out of a tent on one side, apparently to relieve himself. He yawned, glanced lazily around, and then walked out of the camp.
Yuan Jingxin immediately signaled the team to stop, and everyone held their breath and lay quietly behind the tent, waiting for the soldier to leave.
After a while, the footsteps of the soldiers gradually faded away, and Yuan Jingxin waved again and led the team to move forward.
Finally, they arrived outside the target tent. As expected, there were two northern barbarian soldiers guarding outside the tent. They held spears and looked around vigilantly, obviously more alert than the patrol soldiers outside.
Yuan Jingxin frowned and whispered, “We must deal with them quickly and not alert others.”
He signaled again for the two elite soldiers to step forward and resolve the situation.
The two soldiers nodded and quickly went behind the guard, their daggers flashing a cold light.
“Puff–” Two Northern Barbarian soldiers fell to the ground almost at the same time, blood gushing out from their throats and chests, staining the ground red.
Yuan Jingxin stepped forward to check, and after confirming that there were no other guards, he quickly lifted the curtain of the tent and filed in with several soldiers.
In the dim tent, a pungent smell of blood and damp mold hit the face, making people frown.
In the center of the tent, Li Zhongwu was tied to a thick wooden pillar, his body covered in blood and his clothes torn.
His head was slightly lowered, his face was as pale as paper, and the blood at the corners of his mouth had dried, but his eyes still revealed an unyielding stubbornness.
When Yuan Jingxin saw this scene, his heart sank suddenly and he clenched his fists involuntarily.
His eyes swept over the scars on Li Zhongwu’s body. The bruises, knife marks and whip marks silently told of the torture inflicted on him by the Northern Barbarians.
“General Li!” Yuan Jingxin shouted in a low voice and walked quickly forward.
Hearing the familiar voice, Li Zhongwu slowly raised his head. A trace of confusion flashed across his eyes, and then turned into incredible surprise: “General Yuan… General Yuan? Is it really you?”
He struggled to stand up, but his body was so weak that he could hardly move. As soon as he exerted force, the sharp pain from the wound made him gasp, and cold sweat instantly seeped out of his forehead.
Yuan Jingxin immediately squatted down, held him with his hands, and whispered: “General Li, don’t move, we are here to save you!”
Li Zhongwu’s eyes flashed with excitement, but soon, his brows knitted tightly, and his eyes were filled with worry and uneasiness. He panted heavily, his voice low and hurried: “General Yuan, what you are doing… is too risky! If this is a trap set by the Northern Barbarians, won’t your entire army be wiped out?”
He paused, his eyes filled with anxiety: “Where is His Highness? Where is His Highness? If His Highness falls into danger because of me, I will be truly unforgivable!”
There was a hint of self-blame and fear in his voice, as if he was the biggest sinner of the rebels.
Yuan Jingxin patted his shoulder and said in a firm and low voice: “General Li, His Highness is very safe now, you don’t have to worry. We have already planned our actions and will not fall into Hu Yanhuan’s trap easily.”
He paused, his eyes cold, “As for the Northern Barbarians’ plan, even if they really set a trap, we will make them pay the price.”
When Li Zhongwu heard this, a complex emotion flashed in his eyes. He knew that Yuan Jingxin was not a reckless person, but he still couldn’t completely let go of his worries.
“General Yuan…” Li Zhongwu opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something, but the severe pain made him unable to speak again.
Yuan Jingxin felt a pang of pain when he saw Li Zhongwu’s frail appearance, but his expression remained calm and resolute. He turned to the soldier beside him and said, “Help General Li and evacuate first.”
Two soldiers immediately stepped forward and carefully helped Li Zhongwu up.
His body trembled slightly because of the pain of the wound, but he clenched his teeth and did not make a single groan.
“General Yuan, you…” Li Zhongwu looked up at Yuan Jingxin with a hint of doubt in his eyes.
Yuan Jingxin just smiled slightly, with a soothing tone in his voice: “Don’t worry, I still have some things to do, and I will catch up soon.”
Li Zhongwu looked at Yuan Jingxin’s stern face and seemed to understand something, but he did not ask any more questions. He just nodded and let the soldiers help him leave the tent.
When Li Zhongwu disappeared into the night, Yuan Jingxin’s face instantly turned cold. He swept his eyes across the camp, and a hint of cold murderous intent flashed in his eyes.
Although our goal is to rescue General Li, since we are here, we cannot let this opportunity go to waste.” Yuan Jingxin turned to look at his confidant Qin Lie beside him, his voice low and cold, “The main force of the Northern Barbarians has already left, they can’t take away too much baggage. We have to completely destroy this place.”
Qin Lie was stunned for a moment, then a hint of excitement flashed in his eyes: “General, what do you mean…?”
Yuan Jingxin said coldly: “The kitchen and logistics department here must have stored a large amount of kerosene and food.
As long as we light a fire, we can paralyze the logistics of the Northern Barbarians. Even if Hu Yanhuan can rescue Chagan Wuli, they will not have the energy to deal with us. “
Qin Lie immediately understood and grinned: “I understand! General, don’t worry, leave it to me!”
Yuan Jingxin nodded, with a hint of sternness in his tone: “Move quickly and don’t alert others.”
Qin Lie led several elite soldiers and quietly sneaked into the logistics department of the Northern Barbarians. The tent of the logistics department was filled with food, kerosene and other supplies, which was obviously the material core of the entire camp.
“God is really helping me.” Qin Lie said in a low voice, with a hint of excitement in his eyes.
He signaled the soldiers to disperse and sprinkle kerosene in every corner of the tent. The pungent smell of kerosene quickly spread, but the whole process was still silent and did not attract anyone’s attention.
“Ignite!” Qin Lie ordered in a low voice.
The soldiers took out their tinders and carefully lit several fires. The flames quickly jumped up, licking the piles of food and grass, making a crackling sound.
“Boom—” The fire spread instantly, thick smoke rushed straight into the night sky, illuminating the entire camp red.
The burning of food and kerosene made the flames extremely fierce, almost engulfing the entire logistics department in an instant.
The Northern Barbarian soldiers were quickly awakened by the flames, and loud shouts suddenly rang out in the camp: “Fire! Fire!”
“Put out the fire! Put out the fire!”
However, the fire was completely out of control. The thick smoke and flames made the Northern Barbarian soldiers at a loss, and the entire camp fell into chaos.
In the bushes in the distance, Yuan Jingxin stood on a high ground, staring coldly at the burning Beiman camp. The fire in the Beiman camp was still burning fiercely, with thick smoke billowing straight into the sky, and the flames made the night sky as bright as day.
In the distance, there were noisy shouts and chaotic footsteps of the Northern Barbarian soldiers. They tried to put out the fire, but the fire had already gotten out of control and the entire camp fell into chaos.
He glanced at the burning sea of fire behind him, a cold light flashed in his eyes, but he quickly retracted his gaze.
He knew that although the raid was successful, they could not stay here for long, otherwise they would be in danger once the enemy reacted.
“Hurry, evacuate as soon as possible!” Yuan Jingxin ordered in a low voice, with a hint of urgency in his tone.
The soldiers nodded and quickened their pace.
They passed through the dense grass and quickly moved away from the Northern Barbarian camp under the cover of night, and finally met Li Zhongwu in a hidden forest.
Li Zhongwu was carefully supported by several soldiers and sat on a huge rock. His face was still as pale as paper, and cold sweat kept oozing from his forehead. Although he had been successfully rescued, his injuries still made him suffer. Every time he moved his body slightly, his wounds would be pulled, causing him to frown involuntarily.
When he saw Yuan Jingxin coming back, Li Zhongwu raised his head, his eyes were filled with mixed emotions, and his voice was low and trembling: “General Yuan, you are finally back.”
Yuan Jingxin nodded gently, and his eyes carefully scanned Li Zhongwu’s injuries, and his tone revealed deep concern: “General Li, how is your injury? Can you still hold on?”
Li Zhongwu endured the severe pain and managed to force a smile. Although his voice was weak, it was full of determination: “I won’t die. This injury is nothing to me.”
He paused, frowned slightly, and his eyes showed more worry: “General Yuan, where is His Highness now? Is he safe?”
His voice was low and anxious, and it was obvious that he was always concerned about Lin Zhongyun’s safety.
As a loyal member of the rebel army, he would rather endure endless torture himself than see Lin Zhongyun fall into any danger.
Yuan Jingxin couldn’t help but look into the distance when he heard this, with a complex and deep expression on his face, as if he was thinking about something.
His brows knitted slightly, as if he was thinking about something. After a moment, he sighed softly, with a hint of uncertainty in his voice: “If everything goes well, Your Highness should have joined the army by now.”
A hint of worry flashed across his eyes. Although he was confident in Lin Zhongyun’s wisdom and ability, the current situation was complex and changeable, and any small change could trigger a huge crisis.
When Li Zhongwu heard this, a slight sense of relief flashed across his eyes, but then a hint of worry emerged: “It would be great if Your Highness could be safe and sound.”
“But General Yuan, you risked your life by going deep into the enemy camp to save me. It was really too risky.”
Yuan Jingxin shook his head, his tone firm and calm: “General Li, your importance to the righteous army is self-evident. Saving you is our responsibility, and it is also the wish of His Highness.”
“As for the danger… This war is a life-or-death struggle. Since we have chosen this path, we are ready to make sacrifices.”
Yuan Jingxin’s words made Li Zhongwu silent for a moment. He lowered his eyes, as if thinking about something.
After a moment, he slowly raised his head and said in a hoarse voice: “General Yuan is right. Now, Chagan Uli and Hailanhak have completely torn their faces apart. Our rebel army only needs to sit back and reap the benefits.”
There was a hint of calm analysis in his voice, and it was obvious that even though he was seriously injured, he was still considering the overall situation of the rebels.
Yuan Jingxin nodded, with a hint of approval in his eyes: “General Li is right.”
“The cracks within the Northern Barbarians are our greatest opportunity. As long as we hold our ground, we can deal them a fatal blow at the critical moment.”
He paused, and looked into the distance again, his tone more anxious: “But this is not a safe place now, we must retreat as soon as possible!”
Li Zhongwu nodded upon hearing this and said, “That’s right. The fire in the Northern Barbarians’ camp will definitely attract their attention. We must hurry and leave.”
Yuan Jingxin looked at Li Zhongwu and said soothingly, “General Li, rest assured and recover from your injuries. We will head to the front line now. Maybe we can meet your Highness’s men on the way.”
Li Zhongwu nodded, with a hint of expectation in his eyes: “I hope so. If Your Highness is safe and sound, my injuries will not be a big deal.”
Yuan Jingxin smiled slightly, but soon returned to his stern expression.
He turned to look at the soldiers beside him and said in a cold voice: “Pass the order, everyone prepare to evacuate immediately. Be sure to stay alert along the way and never let the enemy find our traces.”
The soldiers nodded and responded, “Yes, General!”
Soon, the team was reorganized. Yuan Jingxin led the rebels and escorted Li Zhongwu all the way to the front line.
The night wind was still blowing, the grass rustled, the sky in the distance was already turning white, and dawn was about to come.
……
At the same time, the fire in the Wolf Division camp was dim.
The camp was completely silent, with only the occasional neighing of horses breaking the peace.
However, this peace was soon broken.
“General! General!” A burst of hurried footsteps and anxious shouts came from deep in the camp, breaking the tranquility of the night. Hu Yanzhong looked anxious and rushed into Yelu Cangqi’s tent panting. He didn’t even have time to open the tent curtain and rushed in directly.
Yelu Cangqi was leaning on a simple camp bed in the tent, resting with his eyes closed, his brows slightly furrowed, as if he had not yet fallen asleep. When he heard Hu Yanzhong’s shout, he suddenly opened his eyes, with a sharp look in his eyes.
“What’s going on?” Yelu Cangqi’s voice was low and calm, with an unquestionable majesty.
Hu Yanzhong stood in the tent panting, his face full of anxiety: “General, something terrible has happened! The Northern Barbarian Camp… The Northern Barbarian Camp is on fire!”
“Fire?” Yelu Cangqi frowned, a hint of doubt flashed in his eyes, but his movements did not hesitate at all.
He quickly got out of bed, put on his cloak, and was dressed in an instant.
As the chief commander of the Northern Barbarian Wolf Division, Yelu Cangqi has always been known for his strict discipline and quick response.
He rarely took off his armor when marching or fighting, so even in the tent, he always remained ready to fight at any time.
“Let’s go!” Yelu Cangqi said coldly, and then quickly walked out of the tent.
The night wind was biting, and the fire in the camp flickered in the wind, reflecting Yelu Cangqi’s stern face.
As soon as he left the camp, his eyes were attracted by the scene in the distant sky… (End of this chapter)
