A Manual for Surviving a Weird World

Chapter 226: Blowing Lantern Ghost

Chapter 226: Blowing Lantern Ghost

“The ghost is still there…”

Ning Zhe felt a little annoyed, but this anger did not belong to him, but to the woman named Wang Jingli.

There is no need to confront the inverted ghost head-on, as that will only benefit the angry fisherman hiding in the dark. Just hide.

There was another thud outside the bathroom, and the upside-down ghost attached to Lao Li’s body jumped forward another step. Ning Zhe looked up and saw the ventilation fan on the wall of the bathroom, which was covered with a screen with fine mesh. If the bee wanted to fly out from here, it had to tear off the screen.

It was too slow to dismantle it by hand, so Ning Zhe pointed the pistol at the screen and fired a shot. The large-caliber pistol using standard rifle bullets created holes in the mesh that were large enough for bees to pass through.

thump—

The ghost jumped closer.

Ning Zhe put the pistol back into his waist and was about to turn into a bee and escape from here, when suddenly, a childish voice called out from outside the bathroom.

“Grandpa Li?”

thump—

The moment the call sounded, the ghost took another step, but this step was not towards the bathroom. Ning Zhe could clearly tell that the sound of the skull falling to the ground was farther away from him.

“Ah… Old Li has turned back?” Ning Zhe immediately understood.

The ghost was calling Lao Li.

Ning Zhe knew about Lao Li’s background. He was a simple old bachelor with little education, but he was not a bad person. Sometimes, when children in the village ran to his yard to pick the dates he planted, Lao Li would not get angry. The children in the village all called him Grandpa Li.

“But isn’t Old Li already dead? Why is it crying out for a dead person?” Ning Zhe was a little confused.

Or maybe, Lao Li is not dead… ?
If you think about it carefully, it is actually not impossible. Ghosts have no emotions, no reason, and operate entirely according to logical rules. The rules are absolute and fair. Ghosts will not target anyone, and ghosts will not favor anyone.

And this upside-down ghost is obviously targeting Ning Zhe.

“There are so many people in the prison, but it didn’t kill any of them. Instead, it chased me all over the prison. When I heard crying in the lounge before, it was the upside-down ghost that arrived in time and prevented me from entering this bathroom at that time…”

Ning Zhe’s gaze slowly moved to the outside of the bathroom door. He took out the camera he had just retrieved from his travel bag, silently stretched it out of the door, and started recording.

He seemed to have figured something out.

“What if the thing standing outside the door right now was not a ghost from the beginning, but… a human?”

Ghosts are fair, but humans are not.

In this situation, Ning Zhe suddenly had a familiar feeling in his heart. It was nearly two months ago when he and Bai Zhi drove to the Sunshine Gas Station outside Gubei Town. The employees and the boss in the station all wanted to kill her like they were possessed…

It was like Old Li, who was possessed by a ghost, chasing him around the prison without sleep.

At this moment, just like at that moment.

“Grandpa Li?”

Another call came from outside the bathroom. Ning Zhe came back to his senses and heard a dull “bang” sound, which was the sound of a flesh and blood body wrapped in cloth falling to the concrete floor.

The next moment, a gust of cold wind passed through the hall and quietly blew into the small bathroom where only Ning Zhe was. A soft call sounded from behind Ning Zhe:
“Lili?”

That was the voice of Wang Jingli’s mother, the identity Ning Zhe was using now. Ning Zhe looked at the mirror on the bathroom wall expressionlessly, his pupils shrinking slightly.

He saw Wang Jingli, wearing a red sweatshirt, standing expressionlessly in front of the mirror. Pale flames were dancing on her face with dark circles under her eyes. A pale flame was suspended above her head. The small bathroom was filled with an eerie atmosphere. The milky white tiles on the walls on both sides reflected the cold white flames, which was chilling.

Not only on the top of the head, but also on the shoulders on both sides of the self in the mirror, there was a pale flame dancing, exactly the same as the will-o’-the-wisp on the head.

Three temperatureless pale flames burned on his left shoulder, right shoulder and head, but when Ning Zhe turned around, he saw that his shoulders were empty.

“Can I only see these three will-o’-the-wisp flames in the mirror?”

Ning Zhe stared intently at himself in the mirror and the three white flames jumping on his body. He squinted his eyes slightly and saw Wang Jingli, wearing a red sweatshirt, standing expressionlessly in the bathroom reflected in the mirror. A vague face slowly emerged from behind Wang Jingli’s shoulder, looming, as if there was an invisible and intangible “person” following her silently.

“Lili…”

In the mirror, the translucent and blurry face slowly opened its mouth. The voice of Wang Jingli’s mother sounded behind Ning She. The strong desire to look back emerged from the bottom of his heart uncontrollably.

[I absolutely cannot respond to this ghost’s call]

Ning Zhe was mentally impressed again and suppressed the desire to look back, with drops of cold sweat running down his temples.

Inside the mirror, the translucent human face was visibly distorted. Vicious hatred emanated from Wang Jingli’s mother’s wrinkled old face, and the fire on her shoulders seemed to chill a little.

Ning Zhe breathed a sigh of relief and met the resentful eyes of the evil spirit behind him.

“Your mother is dead.” Ning Zhe raised his middle finger towards the mirror.

The next moment, a pitch-black two-dimensional human figure moved on the wall of the bathroom. Ye Yao held a sharp dagger in his hand, and the pitch-black blade stabbed cleanly into the transparent ghost shadow projected on the wall through the pale flames.

“Ah——! Lili!! I’m your mother! I’m your mother! Lili!”

A shrill scream echoed throughout the small bathroom. Ning Zhe straightened the evil ghost mask on his face. A bee flew through the bullet hole on the screen window and disappeared into the night.

Flying out of the west wall of the prison, the bee landed at the corner of the east wall and crawled into a hidden warehouse. Ning Zhe unzipped the door in the dark and took out the camera.

After connecting the data cable and accessing the local storage, a screen lit up in the pitch-darkness, and Ning Zhe began to play the video he had just recorded.

Because the last video was shot by Ning Zhe himself with his hands raised, the picture is a little shaky, but it does not affect the viewing experience:

Outside the bathroom, an upside-down figure stood upright beside the coffee table. The steps outside the door were filled with moonlight, casting bright red round “footprints” on the gray-white cement floor.

thump—

thump—

The ghost jumped forward two steps.

Ning Zhe had been busy hiding from ghosts and had no chance to closely observe the condition of Lao Li in the chaotic situation. Now was the first time he saw the ghost’s face clearly.

Old Li was standing upside down with his head. His wrinkled face was covered in blood. The skin on the top of his head had long been worn away, and his face was full of a distorted expression of pain.

His facial features were squirming, showing a strange pulled angle, as if it was not the face of a living person, but a comedy mask painted with exaggerated techniques.
