A Manual for Surviving a Weird World

Chapter 220 When did you come?

Chapter 220 When did you come?
The crying sound was low, not shrill, and the person hiding in the house and crying was a man.

Ning Zhe sighed. The banging sounds of the door behind him gradually quieted down. He thought that the evil ghost couldn’t break open the iron door, so it turned to find another way to get closer to him.

While the ghost was avoiding him, Ning Zhe pushed the door of the lounge. It was not locked, but the moment he pushed the door open, the crying in the room stopped abruptly.

The room was pitch black. The moonlight cast a small fan-shaped light at the door that Ning Zhe pushed open, making the coffee table and chairs in the lounge appear vaguely.

Ning Zhe reached out and found the light switch on the wall next to the door.

The lights came on, and the furnishings in the room were visible. There was nothing fancy in the prison guards’ lounge, just a sofa and coffee table for drinking tea, a wardrobe for hanging uniforms, a few reclining chairs, and a TV that was usually used to watch surveillance but was now completely black.

Ning Zhe stood beside the coffee table and looked to the front right. The crying sound just now came from the direction of the bathroom.

“Woo, woo woo…”

The low sobbing sound was suppressed as much as possible, but it did not disappear completely. The faint sound seemed particularly clear in such a quiet night.

Ning Zhe thought about it, stopped, and his facial features under the mask changed quietly.

In the lounge with lights on, only the low and hoarse cry of a man could be heard intermittently, sobbing in pain, as if he was greatly stimulated. Ning Zhe stood there without moving, as if nothing had happened, and as if everything had happened.

The LED lights on the ceiling cast a cold white light, and there was nothing under Ning Zhe’s feet, not even a shadow.

His shadow left.

Ning Zhe took a step back and turned off the light, making the room dark again and hiding his trace in the darkness.

A dark, two-dimensional human figure stuck to the floor, blending into the darkness of the lounge, and slipped into the bathroom silently.

The man’s crying became clearer as the distance shortened. The tiles on the bathroom floor were wet. The tiny silver moon shone through the blinds, illuminating a distorted figure sitting hunched over the toilet. He covered his face with his hands and cried in pain.

“Woo, woo…”

Judging from his uniform, the man hiding in the bathroom crying was a prison guard. However, his uniform seemed to be a little too big. The shoulder pads on both shoulders were hanging loosely. His baggy trouser legs covered his shoes. His hunched back looked very thin. Sobbing sounds came from his face buried in his arms, and his thin hands were tightly holding a pistol with the safety off.

What happened? Ning Zhe looked at the prison guard crying in the bathroom wearing ill-fitting clothes with some curiosity.

Before he could observe further, a muffled thud suddenly came from outside the door, interrupting Ning Zhe’s thoughts.

Ning Zhe, who was standing next to the coffee table, suddenly came to his senses, walked to the door and looked outside, only to see a corpse with its head down and feet up, standing stiffly on the basketball court, with a pool of bright red blood under the head and another pool of blood not far behind it.

Bloodstains extended from the other side of the basketball court. The evil ghost attached to the corpse followed Ning Zhe’s trail and jumped all the way over.

thump—

It took another leap forward.

Ning Zhe turned and left without hesitation.

The moment he jumped up, his body turned into a black and white magpie, but the magpie identity lasted less than a second before he turned back into a human form. Ning Zhe’s body landed on the roof of the bungalow due to the inertia of flying, and without any pause, he ran away.

“woo woo woo woo…”

The prison guard hiding in the bathroom cried quietly. Ning Zhe moved on the prison roof like a parkour master in a collection, climbing walls and jumping over eaves. The corpse that could only move with its head was soon left far behind by him.

But it was no use. No matter how many times he shook the ghost off, it was no use. The ghost would not get tired, the ghost would not be exhausted, the ghost would not die, and the ghost would not stop.

No matter how far you leave it behind, the immortal ghost will keep chasing you without sleep until you run out of energy, until you are exhausted both physically and mentally, until you die.

This is a world without end, this is a never-ending hunt.

Ning Zhe leaped forward and turned into a flying bird, flying over the barbed wire fence that was electrified with high voltage, and landed at the bloodstained door of the cell.

The blood-stained stretcher fell to the ground, and several prison guards were lying on the ground lifeless. This was where the ghost started killing people.

The cell was filled with noise. The alarm had been ringing for a long time. All the prisoners were unable to sleep and were shouting and making a fuss in the cell. Continuous pushing and shoving mixed with the sound of metal colliding came from inside, which was louder than the alarm that kept ringing all night.

Ning Zhe knelt on one knee and turned the stretcher on the ground over.

It was a very ordinary stretcher, two sticks and a few pieces of cloth, stained with someone’s blood, but nothing else suspicious.

Looking at the body of the prison guard lying on the side, his pupils were dilated, his breathing had stopped, his warm body temperature had just begun to cool down, and his heart in his chest was motionless and lifeless, just an ordinary corpse.

After a quick check, no suspicious external injuries were found on the bodies of the dead. So far, Ning Zhe had seen very few people killed by ghosts with external injuries.

But the absence of external injuries does not mean that there are no other clues.

People killed by Ye Yao will have incomplete shadows, people killed by Te Rang will have no shadows, and people killed by Tai Yi’s substitutes will also leave suspicious clues in their social circles during the process of having their identities taken away by Tai Yi. As long as these clues are found, it may be possible to provide a basis for cracking the rules of ghost killings.

But Ning Zhe didn’t see anything suspicious on these people.

“It’s completely unclear what caused these people’s death…”

Ning Zhe grabbed a prison guard by the collar and brought his lifeless, pale face closer to himself.

“Strange…but I can’t tell what’s strange about it.”

He could feel that there was something strange and abnormal about these corpses, but no matter how carefully he observed, he could not determine the source of that “abnormal feeling”.

Eyes, nose, mouth, ears, limbs, body, heartbeat, body temperature… every part of these corpses was extremely normal, but when put together they gave Ning Zhe an extremely abnormal feeling.

Looking closely at the pale dead face, Ning Zhe felt even more abnormal.

I know there are some abnormalities in these bodies, but I don’t know exactly why. I don’t even have a clue…

“Wait, why are the criminals in the cell suddenly quiet…” Ning Zhe put down the corpse and stood up vigilantly.

When I looked up, I saw a stiff corpse with its head down and feet up, standing straight at the door of the cell.

“Lao Li? When did you come?”
