Chapter 298 Family
Xiao Jue chuckled at the address of "Big Brother," pulled his leg back from the edge of the bed, and changed his position to lie on his side with his elbow resting on the pillow.
"Me? I'll probably work at my dad's company after graduation."
"What does your dad do?" Cheng Yue asked.
"Real estate," Xiao Jue said. "But it's not all real estate; it's a mix of all sorts of things—property management, commercial properties, hotels, basically those kinds of things."
Cheng Yue's mouth formed an "O" shape. "Bro, you're a rich kid."
Xiao Jue smiled, neither denying nor admitting it, and simply put his hands behind his head. "What rich second generation? I'm just an employee, except my boss is my dad."
Cheng Yue turned the chair around again, facing the bed that had been silent all along.
Where is Zhou Heng?
Zhou Heng's thumb paused on the screen for a second, then casually swiped again, sending a notification off the screen.
The light from the screen reflected in his eyes, making his rather long eyes appear somewhat translucent, like frost falling on withered leaves on a late autumn morning.
But his eyes were downcast, and his eyelashes obscured most of his expression.
"I hadn't thought about it," he said.
Cheng Yue paused for a moment, clearly dissatisfied with the answer. "Never thought about it? No, if you haven't thought about it, why did you choose this major?"
Zhou Heng finally raised his eyelids and looked in Cheng Yue's direction, but his gaze passed through him and landed on a void behind him.
"Business administration," he said, his tone completely flat. "It's easy to find a job."
This answer is very practical.
Cheng Yue opened his mouth, wanting to say something to break the awkward silence, but couldn't find the right words for a moment.
Xiao Jue chuckled softly during the brief pause, his voice low and languid with a sleepy quality. "He's a genuine person, unlike you, who always talks about deals worth tens of millions."
Cheng Yue was led astray by this sentence and turned to bicker with Xiao Jue. The two of them exchanged meaningless nonsense, with Fang Yuzhou occasionally interjecting as a temporary referee.
Zhou Heng lowered his head again, and the light from his phone screen came back on, illuminating his fingers as he slowly slid across it.
He had a hand draped over his bent leg, his fingers slightly curled, his nails reflecting a soft sheen under the light.
Cheng Yue was still talking about how much Fang Yuzhou would earn annually at a big company, how Xiao Jue would inherit the family business and become a true winner in life, and how he would definitely set up a scholarship at his alma mater when he became a boss, named "Old Cheng Scholarship".
He spoke with great enthusiasm, as if all the future had already been packaged up and neatly arranged before them, just waiting for them to reach out and take it.
Fang Yuzhou laughed at what he said. It wasn't a big laugh, but you could tell he was genuinely amused, and the corners of his mouth remained curved upwards.
Zhou Heng suddenly moved.
He placed his phone face down next to his pillow, turned over, faced the wall, and wrapped himself in a position where he had no one to look at him.
The blanket was pulled up to just waist level, leaving the shoulders and above exposed, the outline of the back sketching a quiet line under the thin blanket.
Cheng Yue lowered his voice and said, "Go to sleep." Fang Yuzhou responded, and the entire dormitory gradually quieted down.
First, Fang Yuzhou turned off the desk lamp, then Cheng Yue turned over, the bed creaking softly. The motion-activated lights in the hallway went off and on again, then off completely.
Xiao Jue put his hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling with his eyes open. The last bit of light in the dormitory came from the remaining light of the street lamp outside the window, orange-yellow, falling on the edge of the opposite bed through the gap in the curtains.
