Chapter 178 Abnormal Situation?

Shen Man rushed to Lin Fan and grabbed his arm.

"They're still inside for the checkup," Lin Fan said, his voice low and hoarse as he looked at Shen Man.

"What happened? She was perfectly fine last night!"

Shen Man paced anxiously, frantically calling out, "Did you eat something bad? Or did you bump into something? Say something!"

"I don't know. The teacher said she hasn't woken up since her afternoon nap and can't be woken up." Lin Fan stated the facts, his tone devoid of emotion.

"I can't wake him up..." Shen Man covered her mouth, and tears immediately fell down her cheeks.

"Alright, Manman, stop making things worse and let Brother Lin have some peace and quiet."

Qin Lang pulled Shen Man to a nearby rest chair and pressed her down.

Then he turned his head and looked at Lin Fan, his expression serious:

"Brother Lin, don't worry. I already called my dad in the car. Director Li of the First Municipal Hospital is my dad's old classmate."

"I've already had him call over the hospital's best pediatric specialists and the head of neurology from home. They're all here now, giving Tuantuan a consultation. Whatever the illness, we'll use the best medicine and the best equipment; everything will be fine!"

Su Xiaoxiao also walked over quietly, unscrewed a bottle of room temperature mineral water she had just bought at the hospital convenience store, and handed it to Lin Fan.

"Brother Lin, have some water. Tuantuan is a lucky person; he must have just fallen asleep from exhaustion."

Lin Fan took the water but didn't drink it; he just held it tightly in his hand.

"Thanks for making the trip."

A suffocating silence fell over the corridor once again.

Shen Man sat in the chair, her hands clasped tightly in front of her chest, silently shedding tears.

Qin Lang paced back and forth in the corridor, glancing at his phone every now and then.

Su Xiaoxiao stood quietly behind Lin Fan.

More than an hour passed.

"Click".

The heavy door to the emergency room was finally pushed open from the inside.

Several doctors in white coats filed out.

Leading the way was an elderly doctor with gray hair and reading glasses, none other than Director Sun, the most authoritative pediatrician at the First Municipal Hospital.

He held a thick stack of medical reports in his hand, his brows furrowed, his eyes filled with complex doubts and a heavy heart.

Lin Fan immediately went to meet him.

Shen Man, Qin Lang, and Su Xiaoxiao quickly gathered around.

"Doctor, how is my daughter?" Lin Fan asked.

Director Sun stopped, took off his reading glasses, and looked at Lin Fan with a complicated expression.

"Are you a family member?"

"I am her father."

Director Sun took a deep breath, his tone revealing considerable hesitation:

"The child is not in immediate danger. All vital signs are stable, and her breathing and heart rate are normal. The EEG shows that she is simply in a deep sleep."

Upon hearing the words "no danger to her life," Shen Man breathed a long sigh of relief. Her legs went weak and she almost collapsed to the ground, but Qin Lang quickly caught her.

Lin Fan's tense shoulders relaxed slightly.

But what Director Sun said next instantly put everyone's hearts in their throats again.

"However, the data on this list doesn't make any sense at all."

Director Sun handed the preliminary expedited blood routine and biochemistry report to Lin Fan, pointing to a long string of red upward arrows, his tone revealing deep confusion:

"The lab results show that the child's white blood cell count, C-reactive protein, and several other key immune system indicators are alarmingly high—at a completely illogical level!"

"Normally, when blood indicators collapse to this level, it means that some extremely dangerous acute illness or an extremely rare blood disease is erupting in her body!"

"In this situation, the patient will definitely experience persistent high fever, signs of acute organ failure, and excruciating systemic pain that is unbearable for most people!"

Director Sun shook his head, looking at Lin Fan with deep confusion in his eyes:

"A five-year-old child's body should have collapsed long ago; it's impossible for them to be sleeping peacefully without any clinical symptoms!"

"Has she shown any unusual behavior in the past few days?"

Lin Fan's throat felt dry, and his brows were tightly furrowed.

He recalled Tuantuan's condition over the past few days: "She eats and drinks well, and is happy to go to the early education center every day. The only unusual thing is that she has become particularly fond of sleeping these past few days. She can fall asleep as soon as her head hits the pillow, and she sleeps very soundly."

"That makes even less sense."

Director Sun rubbed his temples, looking at the lab report in his hand as if he were reading an unsolvable book.

"This completely contradicts the indicators and clinical presentation!"

"It's so contradictory. The indicators show she's very ill, and her organs could fail at any moment. Yet, her overall health is exceptionally good, with extremely high cellular activity!"

"Doctor, you mean..." Lin Fan's voice was dry and painful, "She's very ill, but... she's not showing it?"

"At this point, we can only speculate. Based on these two preliminary test results alone, we cannot diagnose what the disease is, nor can we find out why she has no symptoms."

Director Sun sighed deeply, his expression grave:

"We must admit her to the hospital immediately. Next, we need to give her a comprehensive and thorough physical examination, including a bone marrow aspiration, whole genome screening, and in-depth assessment of her immune system... It will take at least three to five days to get a definite result."

Director Sun patted Lin Fan on the shoulder, his tone heavy:

"We will do our best, but Mr. Lin, you should also be mentally prepared."

After the doctor finished speaking, he took the medical record and hurried to the doctor's office to arrange subsequent examinations.

After these words were spoken, the corridor fell into a deathly silence.

Shen Man covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes again.

Qin Lang's face also turned deathly pale.

That little girl, who always smiles and hugs her strawberry bear, calling out "Little Sister" and "Uncle Qin Lang" in a sweet, soft voice, actually has such a ticking time bomb inside her?!

Lin Fan stood there, his mind reeling as if he had been struck hard.

He lowered his head and stared intently at the two flimsy medical records in his hand.

The absence of symptoms does not mean that you are not sick.

And he, as a father, was completely unaware!

I thought she was just growing and getting sleepy from playing!

in case……

What if he discovers it too late...

A profound and intense fear gripped Lin Fan's heart.

He walked to the glass window of the emergency observation room.

Through the glass, Tuantuan was lying quietly on the white hospital bed.

A cardiac monitor was connected to the side, its wavy lines beating steadily.

The little girl was sleeping soundly. Even in her sleep, there wasn't a trace of pain in her brows. Her little hands were just unconsciously clutching the corner of the blanket. She looked so small and fragile.

Lin Fan stood quietly, just a door away.

He pressed himself against the cold glass, his heart aching.
