Chapter 259 Chief of Staff Lu, take care of your health, don't push yourself too hard in traini

Ring ring ring—!

The landline in Lu Weidong's temporary office rang.

"Feed?"

There was a moment of silence on the other end, then Su Feng's firm voice came through: "It's me."

Lu Weidong leaned back, a smile already playing on his lips: "Oh, Deputy Director Su took the initiative to call, how rare."

"..." Su Feng took a deep breath. "There's a detail I need to confirm with you regarding the joint training plan later."

"Speak," Lu Weidong said irritably.

"I think the special operations team's entry time should be fifteen minutes earlier."

Lu Weidong raised an eyebrow: "Ahead of schedule? Our infantry can't keep up."

"That's your problem," Su Feng said coldly.

"Su Feng, we work in the same unit, we're not enemies."

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, followed by a soft hum: "That's why I'm calling you to discuss this."

Lu Weidong laughed: "Is that a tone of negotiation? You're giving orders to your superior."

The sound of long, heavy breathing came from the other end of the phone, as if the person was about to burst into smoke from anger.

Upon hearing this voice, Lu Weidong pursed his lips, desperately trying to control himself from laughing out loud.

"So, will you approve it or not?" Su Feng asked curtly.

"No approval." Lu Weidong said decisively.

"......."

"Fifteen minutes is too rushed, ten minutes is fine," Lu Weidong said slowly.

There was silence on the other end of the phone, as if someone was thinking.

"Okay. Ten minutes then."

With a snap, Su Feng hung up the phone.

He opened the metal cabinet door, took out his training jacket, put it on, and walked out of the office.

Suddenly he stopped in his tracks.

There was a pile of things on the ground near the entrance.

There were liniment for bruises, safflower oil, plasters, and a letter that was unsigned and contained only one line of text.

"Section Chief Su, take care of your health and don't overexert yourself in training."

The handwriting is beautiful and neat, clearly a girl's.

His brow furrowed slightly.

He crumpled the letter into a ball and threw it in the trash can.

Then he lifted his foot, stepped over the pile of things, and continued walking.

After taking a couple of steps, he turned back, looked at the pile of things on the ground, and then glanced at Lu Weidong's office.

A few minutes later.

Su Feng turned and left, and the pile of things at the door was moved to the door of Lu Weidong's office.

He also attached a handwritten letter, his handwriting deliberately delicate and petty.

"Chief of Staff Lu, take care of your health and don't push yourself too hard in training."

The letter was hidden under the medicine.

Section Chief Su grinned and strode away.

.........

It's the weekend again.

This week, Chen Yuanchuan took Zhang Yunxia and Xiao Xiangyang out to play, leaving the responsibility of taking care of Wang Hao and Ding Jiahe to Ye Wenxi and his wife.

In the small garden behind the hospital.

"You eat it," Wang Hao stubbornly insisted.

"It's practically up to your lips, so hurry up and eat it." Ding Jiahe peeled a lychee and stuffed it into his mouth.

Wang Haomei happily opened her mouth and took it in, "Mmm, so sweet!"

"You can have the next one," he mumbled, his cheeks puffed out like a hamster's.

"I'll peel one for you," Wang Hao said, reaching out to take it.

"Hey~ No! You can't move around right now. It's good enough that you can sit in a wheelchair!" Ding Jiahe pushed his hand away and stuffed another one into his mouth.

Wang Hao's eyes rolled back as he was stuffed with lychees, but he was still beaming with happiness, mumbling indistinctly as he chewed on the lychees:

"You're the one who loves me the most."

Ye Wenxi and Lu Weidong stood behind the wheelchair with their arms crossed.

The two had remarkably similar expressions, their mouths twitching and their eyes rolling in perfect unison.

"Do we really have to stay here with them?" Lu Weidong asked, speechless, turning to look at Ye Wenxi.

"There's nothing I can do. This arm is paralyzed and I can't walk, and that arm can't be pushed," Ye Wenxi said with a smile.

"That's exactly what happened, it was us who ruined it."

Ding Jiahe smiled and rolled her eyes at her: "You're so annoying!"

Lu Weidong took a deep breath and closed his eyes.

"I'm going to buy food."

"Dong-ge!" Wang Hao called from behind, "Buy some good food to feed him! I don't want to eat rice noodles anymore, I always eat half and then throw up the other half!"

Ye Wenxi turned to look at him: "So, what are you going to eat?"

"Steamed buns! Dumplings! Wontons! Basically, the kind you can eat in one bite!"

Ding Jiahe also raised her hand: "I want rice noodles, with a meat topping!"

Ye Wenxi looked at the two of them speechlessly. One was paralyzed and the other had a bad arm, but they were both more energetic than the other when it came to ordering food.

"Okay, wait." Lu Weidong turned and left.

He took two steps, then turned back to look at Ye Wenxi:

"Come with me."

Ye Wenxi blinked: "What?"

"I'm afraid that if I come back alone, they'll have already been strangled to death by you."

Ye Wenxi: "...That makes sense."

The two walked side by side toward the cafeteria.

Behind us, Ding Jiahe's voice came: "Hey? Don't abandon us!"

Ye Wenxi and Lu Weidong quickened their pace at the same time.

After lunch, Lu Weidong accompanied Wang Hao and introduced him to the recent situation in the military region and the establishment of the Joint Assault Operations Research Office.

Ye Wenxi sat on the edge of Ding Jiahe's bed, leaning over a small cabinet, burying her head in her work on the drawings.

Ding Jiahe stared at her intently, chin in hand, as if watching a monkey show.

"Do you think I can learn it?" Ding Jiahe blurted out out of the blue.

"Hmm?" Ye Wenxi looked up, her pen hovering in mid-air. "Designing?"

"Yes!" Ding Jiahe nodded vigorously, her face serious.

"Can you draw?"

"Underestimating me?" Ding Jiahe leaned back, her eyes filled with three parts disdain and seven parts provocation. "Who can't draw? I even won an award in art class when I was a kid!"

Ye Wenxi raised an eyebrow and handed over a pen and paper: "Want to give it a try?"

Ding Jiahe took the pen and stretched her right hand.

The stitches on her arm have been removed, and she can still make small, subtle movements with her fingers, but she doesn't have much control over them.

She took a deep breath and began to paint with a serious expression.

At first, Yeh Wen-hsi stared intently at the tip of her pen, wanting to see the skill of this "award-winning art student".

But slowly, her expression began to freeze, her eyes gradually lost focus, and her lips tightened little by little until they formed a straight line.

A moment later.

"Because of my hand injury, I can't perform to my full potential!" Ding Jiahe handed over the drawing, speaking with self-righteousness. "How is it? Give me your feedback!"

Ye Wenxi looked down at the sketch, then looked up at Ding Jiahe, then looked at the sketch again, then looked at Ding Jiahe again.

The drawing depicts a crooked house with something resembling a large tree stuck next to it. Several cotton candy-like clouds float above the top, and there's something radiating light... probably a sun.

Ye Wenxi felt that even if Zhang Xiangyang were to draw it, it would be better than this.

She paused for two seconds, then slowly shook her head.

"Huh?" Ding Jiahe frowned. "It really hasn't fully recovered!"

Ye Wenxi reached out and patted her head.

"Come on, look down, let me see if you're injured inside your head too."

"Ouch!" Ding Jiahe slapped her hand away, leaned back, and sprawled on the bed. "What am I supposed to do? What can I do?"

Looking at her, Ye Wenxi suddenly understood.

Ding Jiahe is anxious. She's a little worried about her future.

She didn't want to just be a partner in name only, nor did she want to be someone who was "taken care of." She wanted to have the ability to live up to this trust and prove that she wasn't a useless person.

Ye Wenxi stopped joking, put the sketch aside, and looked at her seriously:

"This is nothing!"

"You don't even understand how our garment company operates, how we take orders, or how we ship orders. What's the rush?"

"When you get back, you can gradually get to know people. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to shine."

Ding Jiahe was stunned for a moment, then her eyes slowly lit up.

"real?"

"Have I ever lied to you?" Ye Wenxi asked.

Ding Jiahe thought for a moment, then suddenly smiled.

"Okay, I'll follow you around every day when I get back, but don't find me annoying."

Ye Wenxi rolled her eyes: "It's not like I've only found you annoying for a day or two."

"Ye Wenxi!" Ding Jiahe gritted her teeth.

"Call me President Ye," Ye Wenxi said, putting on an air of importance.
